5 Tips for Gearing up Your Kids for School

Schools reopening is good news – though it does come with its own set of challenges. If you’re wondering how best to manage the transition back, read on.

1. Get Back Into Your Family Routines

Quarantine definitely shook up our day to day lives. The time and way we do things changed. You might have, for example, allowed your kids to sleep in a little longer. No judgment here. Our routines have shifted, too.

Now might be a good time to start adjusting to their old habits again. It will make the transition easier in a couple of days when school starts.

2. Talk Them Through What’s Going to Happen

A lot of kids are really excited to go back to school and for things to go back to normal. Sadly, the return to school won’t exactly be the normal that they’re hoping for. Wearing masks all the time, having their temperature taken, social distance and hygiene rules… Not exactly business as usual. So talk them through what they can expect from their return to schools.

Check how they’re feeling about it. Are they excited? Is there anything they’re worried about? If they are worried – that’s normal. They’ve been watching adults worrying over the last couple of months, so they know this is a Big Deal. Asking this now can help you nip some of these issues in the bud. If they aren’t worried – that’s also normal! Kids are often tougher than we give them credit for.

3. Get Support for Schoolwork to Ease the Transition

Schools reopening is good news – though it does come with its own set of challenges. If you’re wondering how best to manage the transition back, read on.

Homeschooling, while a great alternative during the quarantine, probably wasn’t up to the same standard of lessons kids usually get at school. That’s ok. It served its purpose for now. Our next challenge is transitioning back to classic brick and mortar classrooms and getting learning back on track.

Your child might need some extra support during this time. You can spend a bit of time helping them study or maybe even hire a tutor for the most difficult subjects. And for math, if you haven’t already, check out our Home Based Learning Plan! It’s better than a math tutor for a fraction of the cost, and it’s just the thing to help get them ready for their math exams.

And speaking of exams….

4. Start Preparing for Exams

Yes, exams are still a bit away. But this year things are a bit different, as kids might need to catch up on what they missed during homeschooling. This is not a reason to panic, but planning ahead here will save you some headaches down the road.

KooBits is here to support you with that, too.

5. Get Some Well Deserved “Me” Time

You’ve made it. You survived the Great Quarantine, and kept your kids safe, well-fed, and educated. Well done! Take a well-deserved break and enjoy your home being a grown-up zone as your kids head back to their classrooms.
